Medicines for the refrigerators of the “Solar Medicus” health stations - Sponsored by Shell Germany Anniversary Capital
The aim of our Solar Medicus project was to ensure basic medical and emergency care in several remote villages in the Sundarbans. To this end, three solar-powered health stations were delivered to selected villages in September 2013. The stations include a refrigerator with a capacity of 50 liters, specially designed for storing medicines.
In a follow-up project, the refrigerators were stocked with essential life-saving medicines such as antidotes for snake bites and rabies, as well as antibodies against the Rhesus factor for Rhesus-negative pregnant women. This was made possible by a donation of €4,200.00 from Shell Deutschland Jubiläums Kapital to HIF e.V. Since then, approximately 50 people, including many children, have been treated for rabies and snake bites. Before the health stations were delivered and the refrigerators upgraded, this life-saving measure would not have been possible. Thanks to our projects, around 30-50 lives can now be saved each year in the Sundarbans.
