Purpose of the association

The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg has a long tradition of engagement with India, ranging from cultural exchange to trade. We are pleased to observe a significant intensification and steady growth of these relations in recent years, particularly in the areas of cultural and academic exchange.

The goal of the Hanseatic India Forum e.V. is to strengthen and expand these relations between Hamburg and India globally through support and specific activities. The association will actively participate, especially through its events held in Hamburg, in promoting cultural exchange, education, and the diverse academic encounters between Hamburg residents and Indians.

The Hanseatic India Forum e.V. pursues exclusively and directly charitable purposes within the meaning of the section "Tax-privileged purposes" of the German Fiscal Code (§ 51ff. AO) in its currently valid version.

The purpose of the association is to promote culture and education, development cooperation, and international understanding between Germany, particularly Hamburg, and India. The association's purpose is achieved in particular through:

  • Supporting the international exchange of opinions, information, and experiences by organizing events (e.g., cultural events such as presentations of German/Indian classical/modern music, readings of German/Indian literature and visual arts, as well as art exhibitions

  • Organizing discussion forums on topics of German-Indian understanding; forums for networking

  • Specialist symposia

  • Training programs on topics of significant relevance to Germany, especially Hamburg, and India) for individuals (artists, scientists, professors, technologists, students, and practitioners), institutions, universities, institutes, and organizations in Germany, especially from Hamburg, and India.

  • Promoting the exchange of professionals between Indian and German institutions, academic institutes, and other institutions and associations, as well as cooperation with academic institutions in Hamburg and university graduates from both countries

  • Promoting development policy through population policy measures in India in cooperation with other domestic and international organizations, non-governmental organizations, chambers of commerce, institutions, and authorities particularly in rural areas, to build an efficient social and economic infrastructure, including healthcare and transportation

  • Environmental protection

  • Improving energy supply and education

In summary, we can say that the self-imposed task and function of the Hanseatic India Forum e.V. will be to act as a catalyst and positive driver for further intensifying international understanding between India and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. We achieve this particularly successfully by initiating motivating dialogues and communication, deepening existing networks, and expanding them further.
